Up to 200 files at a time, 200 MB per file. These limits protect your browser from running out of memory, they are not commercial restrictions.
This image is being read and converted by your own browser. It is never uploaded.
How to do it
Step 1: Drop your PNG files onto the page, or click to choose them. You can also paste an image straight from the clipboard.
Step 2: WebP is already selected as the output. Adjust the quality or size if you want to.
Step 3: Press Convert. The work happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Step 4: Download the WebP file, or download everything as a ZIP if you converted several.
Why convert PNG to WebP?
WebP keeps transparency, so logos and screenshots convert without needing a background colour.
Lossless WebP is usually smaller than the equivalent PNG while being pixel-identical, which makes it a straightforward replacement for web use.
WebP also brings its own advantage here: typically 25 to 35 percent smaller than a JPEG of comparable quality.
PNG compared with WebP
The two formats are built for different jobs, and the differences decide whether this conversion is the right one. PNG and WebP differ mainly in these respects.
| Aspect | PNG | WebP |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless. The file is compressed, but no image information is thrown away. | Both. Lossy by default, with a lossless mode available. |
| Transparency | Yes, with 256 levels of opacity per pixel. | Yes, in both lossy and lossless modes. |
| Software support | Universal. | Every current browser. Support in desktop applications is improving but uneven. |
| Best suited to | Screenshots, logos, icons, diagrams and anything with text or flat colour. | Images on websites, where size matters and the browser is doing the opening. |
Questions
Are my PNG files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read from your device and never sent to a server, because this site has no server that receives them.
Does converting to WebP lose quality?
By default yes, a little: WebP discards detail in exchange for a much smaller file, and the quality setting controls how much. At 80 or above the difference is rarely visible. WebP also has a lossless mode, which keeps every pixel at the cost of a larger file.
Can I convert several PNG files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together, and download the results individually or as a single ZIP. Progress is shown per file and overall.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no commercial limit and no account. There are technical limits, because a browser has finite memory: very large images are flagged before conversion, and the tool says plainly when a device may struggle rather than freezing.
Does it cost anything?
No. Every format and every feature is available to everyone. There is no paid tier, no watermark and no sign-up.
